Pi & Potato Chips - This is MY Story

Happy Pi Day!! Math people everywhere are ecstatic. We get to unapologetically nerd out, (which is not really any different from any other day..), but today it's even more awesome!! Courtesy of the National Day Calendar, there are even more reasons to celebrate on 3/14. After that Spring Forward Hour, I definitely want to celebrate National Napping Day in the best way! It's also National Potato Chip Day and (insert drum roll here), National Write Down Your Story Day!! Fantastic for a mathematician with stories to tell, and as for the chips well next to popcorn, they are my absolute favorite.

In college as a math major, I spent many days studying with a bag of Utz Kettle Classic chips in tow and a Pepsi. It was my go-to for late-night study binges and problem sets. They were snacks for sitting on the bed watching movies or for just walking down the street. I remember walking to the Wawa down the street from my dorm room just because they always had Utz Kettle Classics. I'd get 2 bags, a small one to eat on the trek back up the hill and a big one to have later for whatever task awaited me. Ahh, the gold days.

Funny enough, when I first started writing, on my desk was a bag of chips and a Pepsi as I traversed through scriptures and events to put my story on paper for the world to see. Writing your story is an important task. Even if you never intend to publish it leaves your history behind for others to read and remember. Earlier today, I learned of the passing of a dear friend. While my heart is grieved for her passing and full of care for her family and closest friends that are left with memories, the one thing that makes me smile is that she in fact began to tell her story and leave it for all to see. She was a fighter and a survivor. I will always remember her as such.

If you've been toying around with the idea of writing your story, be it a blog, a book, or a chapter in an anthology but you have no idea where to start, let's talk. I've become quite well at telling my story on the page. She Changed Her Narrative tells the story of how I became a mathematics teacher. Trusting God in the Unknown: Stories of Faith & Triumph tells the story of how after 18 years I had to make the decision to walk away from teaching. Be the Overcomer is my story of navigating through years of depression. I wrote for 9 different anthologies last year and am currently working on 3 of my own that should be out before this year is over. Our stories matter and through them we provide, hope, encouragement, and perhaps even a sense of direction for someone in a situation similar to ours.

Even if you don't plan to publish, writing is pretty cathartic. Just getting the words out on the page provides great psychological and emotional relief. In these trying times, especially of the last few years, if you cannot find anyone to talk to, write out your story until you can. If you want to work on writing your story, let's talk.

Now it's time for me to find some chips and get to writing!
